ABOUT / CONTACT

Hi, I’m Cat.

I've spent two decades working and creating alongside musicians and other artists, specializing in telling their stories, ensuring that their work gets the attention it deserves, helping them create quality + fulfilling art, strategizing to point their career in the right direction, helping them access health + wellness services, and generally take care of things they need so they can focus on what they do best: creating art.

For the past two years, I’ve done this work through my business, CAPA GATTA COMMUNICATIONS, but before that? It’s a long story.

TL;DR: EMAIL ME →

My career began in music journalism, interviewing musicians and writing about culture for outlets like CREEM, KERRANG!, VICE, Willamette Week, SF Weekly, Sacramento News & Review, Metal Sucks, and many others, in addition to hosting/co-producing the podcast HOT-BLOODED, which tackled the intersection of love and rock 'n roll through in-depth, vulnerable conversations with some of the biggest names in rock and metal. My work was also featured in a handful of books, including the foreword for Doomed To Fail (the definitive book on the history of doom metal by J.J. Anselmi), and an interview with Buzz Osborne of The Melvins in Best Rock Writing 2014.

This path eventually led me to New York, where I accepted the role of U.S. Editorial Producer of the legendary London-based rock 'n' roll magazine KERRANG!. During my time there, I continued my written work in addition to producing the Brooklyn iteration of the live music video series The K! Pit (featuring Sum 41, Baroness, Gatecreeper, and many others) and writing, producing, and co-hosting their documentary podcast, Inside Track, featuring interviews with Tool, Korn, Fallout Boy, and more.

When KERRANG! closed their American office, I took a job as Editorial Director of Warner Music Group's heavy metal media outlet, THE PIT, and launched a full rebrand that included writing a new style guide, hiring full-time staff and freelancers, and directing/producing cutting-edge flagship video content.

The onset of the pandemic inspired me to be move back to the west coast to be closer to family, so I accepted a job as Marketing Director of RHINO Records, where I oversaw all content creation and marketing activations for a roster of legacy artists like Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Black Sabbath, Pantera, The Replacements, Eagles, and many others.

Eventually, I decided to hit pause on the record-label world and return to school, so I completed my Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Psychology and Communication Studies at Portland State University and began work at the musicians’ healthcare nonprofit, Seattle Musicians Access to Sustainable Healthcare (SMASH) as their Operations Manager. After two years of deeply fulfilling work there, I decided to step back and focus on my business, CAPA GATTA COMMUNICATIONS, and take what I’ve learned in my wild ride of a career and serve artists, musicians, and small businesses in the creative fields in a more direct way.

My career has taken me to San Francisco, Sacramento, Portland, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Los Angeles, and Seattle, but these days you can find me in Northern California, living the (slightly) slower life with my partner, Evan, and 115-lb dog, Bonham.
